A special THANKS TO:
Los Cuentos De Nuestra Gente: The Stories of Our People is a new play festival created to celebrate the unique stories of our people; the stories and lives of marginalized voices that have been historically overlooked by mainstream media
The original idea for this festival was born out of the desire of a small group of Brown Bag Theatre Co. members, led by our Creative Director, Meghan Minguez-Marshall, to provide more opportunities for UCI theatre artists to collaborate on original works that honor the stories of our families, ancestors, and even ourselves on the stage.
Last Summer when it was confirmed that we wouldn’t be able to physically bring these plays to the stage due to Covid-19, we did what theatre artists do best: we pivoted, and with the help of every single person who has touched this project we sought out new, Covid-friendly, ways to share these stories digitally through the Los Cuentos De Nuestra Gente website you're looking at right now! This shift from in-person to online challenged us to get creative and expand our vision further to help performing artists present their independent vignettes and provide small business owners a platform to sell their fine art.
Acknowledgments
Los Cuentos De Nuestra Gente team and all members of Brown Bag Theatre Co. would like to acknowledge that UCI and Brown Bag Theatre are located on stolen land. The Ajachamen and Tongva peoples are the ancestral caretakers of this land and we honour them and their ancestors. Additionally, our team is made up of contributors from all over the United States, and we thank them for their time and effort to make this festival happen.
¡Muchisimas Gracias y pa'lante!
